Hello!

Hi, my name is Jermaine Beckley and thanks for stopping by and visiting my blog. I am a portrait and wedding photographer currently located in Kings County, California.

This blog is dedicated to following my photographic journey and personal life. It will feature up to date happenings and photography assignments for my family, friends, and clients whom I hope to become friends with and other nonsense you may or may not care to read about my life. I want to make this fun for all of my visitors and hopefully educate anyone interested in my work. Also, and most importantly...just get to know me!

Enjoy!

Update: I ran across this article from another professional photographer, and I think it could not have been explained better when it comes to the question of pricing. I encourage you to read this article to get a better understanding of mine and other photographers like myself when it comes to your investment. Here is the link.

Before I go…

Most of you may already know that my military duty has called and I will be deployed for pretty much the rest of this year. I haven’t had as many shoots this year due to my work schedule and they will probably be even more limiting even after I return at least for the next 2 1/2 years. I will try to update my blog during my overseas visits if the network aboard the Naval Ships allow me. Anyway here is my last shoot that I done with a neighbor and friend of ours who will be moving soon and probably won’t be here when I get back. I had fun shooting their children who were great subjects. They ordered big prints (16×20s) and I gotta tell ya, they look very good at that size…so much so I may have to insist on any future shoots to make sure they go with those type of prints or bigger! Sure it cost a little more, but it’s worth it. The pictures here won’t do it justice to the prints they received.

Thanks Christy and Charlie, for choosing me to photograph your children and we will miss you as neighbors!

Until next time….

Last Day, First blog…

Okay so it’s been a while since my last posted blog and seeing that I’m writing this on the last day of January 2009, hence the title. A little has happened since then, I’ve had a wonderful holiday season, from Thanksgiving to being at home in STL with my family for Christmas, to visiting my in-laws in San Diego for New Years. While I’ve taken quite a few photos since then (mainly during Christmas) my first portrait session happened to be with my sister-in-law’s family. It was a great session and meeting my niece for the first time was enjoyable too. Anyway this year will be a lot different from last year as I will be deploying for the most part of it as a result of my Naval career so in a way I won’t be doing many sessions. Sadly to say, I had to turn down at least five weddings that will be going on during the time I’ll be deployed and I’ll miss my children’s birthdays this year as well. Such is life….

I will however, be attending the WPPI convention this year which I had been trying to attend the past three years, but due to scheduling, I wasn’t able to make it. Hope to see some of the fellow photographers there who’s work have inspired me to do this well. Until next time…

Here are my in-laws family portraits.

Seun & Jennifer’s Wedding

Three weeks ago (Oct 12, 2008) I was happy to be apart of Seun and Jennifer’s really beautiful wedding. I was assisted by my own wedding photographer Heather Molloy who is probably buttoning up her last suitcases and moving to Sydney, Australia as we speak (or write, or whatever…) She’ll be truly missed, but I’m sure she’ll be back sometime. Anyway here are a few favorites of mine from the day.

This was actually an idea from the groomsmen… Captain Morgan’s anyone?

There were plenty more images I really liked, but for the sake of space and scrolling I’ll only post a few. If you would like to see the entire wedding shoot me your email address to get access to it. Thank you Seun and Jennifer for choosing me as your photographer.

Seun and Jennifer engagement session

I met Suen and Jennifer at a friend of mine’s wedding which I also photographed. You can see a sample of that wedding in the picture bar at the top of this blog.  Jennifer told me about their upcoming wedding during that time so naturally I gave her my card. So now they’ve booked me for their wedding in October and I feel privileged and honored to do it. I’ll be recruiting my own wedding photographer (Heather Molloy) to assist me and I know we’re going to create some timeless images for Seun and Jennifer. Here are a few of my favorites from their session.

I think they look very good together don’t you?

Here is one of my favorites. My car was actually in the background, but if you can’t tell where it was then I think I’ve done a good job cloning it out. I normally like to get things exact in the camera, but I had to make it work for this image.

I really liked this location and I’ll have to use it more often for other projects, you’re only seeing a small portion of it. I think Seun and Jenn were well dressed for the location or any location for that matter.

Starting to have fun at this point.

Like I said very nice setting!

I really like capturing images like these.

Can’t wait ’til the wedding!

A Photo Walk

Saturday (Aug 23, 2008) I was involved in a worldwide photo walk that was put together by Scott Kelby a best selling author on Photoshop and also a great photographer. It turned out to be a really fun day for me to actually meet other photographers around my area and just capture images of whatever caught our eye. There was a contest involved in all of this, but I didn’t care much for it, because for me it was an opportunity to just get out and shoot, which I hardly get the chance to do. The images are a little different from the norm of what I usually shoot, but I enjoyed the fact that it made me stop and really think about how I wanted to capture something even if I didn’t do to great this time. Photography is like any other art…it’s subjective so what make look pleasing to some may not to others. I’ve met a lot of great people that day and I hope I get to do this more often.

Kaylynn’s 1st year!

I’m blessed to have been around each stage of my daughter’s growth from birth to 12 months. I consider this an accomplishment for a military dad who’s probably been to more countries than US states. I’m also happy that I was privileged to photograph these stages. I say privileged because my daughter is a very beautiful baby and this is not just a biased opinion…God has blessed me with two gorgeous kids, but that was the easy part I guess LOL! Anyway here are the best pics in my opinion of my beautiful daughter.

She was only a week old during this shoot and it’s the biggest wall portrait I have in my home.

Her hair isn’t that long yet…her mother decided to dress her like Pippi Longstocking for an ’80s party.

And finally here is her first birthday cake!

Darius turns 5!

Last weekend we celebrated my son Darius’ birthday by giving him a little party with a few of his friends.

He was really excited about having the party, but probably more excited about getting new gifts and toys.

He wanted a Star Wars theme which to me was exciting since I grew up on Star Wars and he likes it too! Guess what we’re doing Halloween…

Rocking out with his friend Chad on Guitar Hero.

Little sis is enjoying the day too!

He was happy to get Pokeman cards.

The expression on his face when he saw that he got Mario Party for the Wii (from me) was priceless!

He’s still enjoying all of his gifts and it was a really fun day…’til next year.

Hello world!

Welcome to my first post! Nothing to see here but future blogs will look much better…I promise!
